The Hypocrisy of TradWives and How to Actually Protect Your Finances
The "TradWives" movement has grown exponentially over the last year, with content popping up all over mainstream media, Instagram, and TikTok. TradWife videos themselves may be hashtagged #tradwife...but the “link in profile” betrays a different story.
These women aren’t actually financially submissive at all. In fact, many of them are making bank. But this runs in direct opposition to one of the hallmarks of the TradWife ethos: a glamorized financial subordination to a male partner.

I use 50/30/20 as a guideline. Keep my wants under 50. Needs always at 20. And save at least 30. If my wants falls to 45 then my saving jumps to 35. Point is I try to keep overhead low, still get to enjoy the present, and preparing for the future.

The 401k is good, because retirement choices determine a lot of things. My parents both spent same number of years in the civil service, but my mom was investing through a wealth manager, and my dad through the 401k. My mom retired with about 4.2 million, but my dad retired with roughly 1.8 million. So it really does.

Effective management of personal finances is more important than the amount of money saved, regardless of whether one earns income through work or investment. To optimize financial outcomes, individuals can seek guidance from a qualified financial advisor who can provide tailored advice and strategies to minimize expenses and maximize income.

Thoughts on taking the money from the RSUs and buying into the Employee Stock Purchase Plan at 10% off the stock? Say maybe this was the largest company in the world aka Microsoft? I always thought it was best to keep less than 10% of your portfolio tied up in single stocks. But how does buying that single stock at 10% off factor in? I will likely be fully funding a backdoor Roth, 401k matched at 50%, am saving, and investing outside of tax advantaged vehicles. I have a pension from the Army and likely a check from veteran affairs.

Here's the problem I have with Katie's channel. She doesn't understand the biological imperative that places more expectations on men than women. No matter her desire to work, she disrupts the nature of expectations. For example, if a man loses his job for a year or two, the relationship is likely to end. If a man makes more than enough to support the family, most women will lose attraction if he just stays home with the kids. The reverse isn't true. Additionally, men face undue risks like military service and other life-threatening events. Women expect more from men than vice versa due to their biological drive for safety and gene selection. Thus, parity between men and women in roles isn't feasible, and even if achieved, it would likely diminish attraction and arousal.

Insurance needs to be financially reasonable, however like homeowners and car insurance you are paying for peace of mind that if the unforeseen happens you can pay it. After going through cancer with one of my dogs I wish I had done insurance. Thankfully she qualified for a trial and so far she is still healthy without it, it would have been impossible to cover the costs.

I feel so conflicted whenever I watch content on this topic. As a stay at home, homeschooling mother for over three decades, it feels like social media has pathologized normal, maternal behaviors that have been intrinsic to our species since the dawn of time. Rather than receiving the admiration that I once did for my life choices, all I hear today is politicized ideation of who I am from people who have never lived my life and truly have no idea what my life has been like. It’s surreal.

So because a wife works from home she's not a trad wife? And you definitely don't understand how these marriages work. We don't need permission to leave the house, we don't get an "allowance" or are denied access to the bank accounts. That's not how a healthy marriage works. Just because some of the relationships are like you describe doesn't mean that they ALL are. And frankly it's insulting that feminist say women have the choice to be what they want to be EXCEPT if it's a traditional wife.
